PROJECTS

KABETE CHILDREN'S HOME

Kabete is home to 53 beautiful, hard- working children aged from 2-14. Many of the children are orphans and come from homes where they cannot be cared for. The Salvation Army pays for them to go to school and takes care of them during term time. During school holidays the children are encouraged to spend time in their home communities with family or friends, to help them build relationships for once school is finished. After Grade 8 the Salvation Army continues to sponsor them and pay for their Secondary tuition.

In the home, there are 4 house mothers who ensure the children wash their clothes, polish their shoes and do their homework each day. The children and staff work incredibly hard and were a true inspiration to me. They were always smiling and always singing.

Your money will help to continue this amazing work, paying for the upkeep of the dormitorys, their food and resources. Aswell as the huge cost of school fees, so thank you.

JOYTOWN SCHOOL

Joytown is an inclusive school for children with physical disabilities and able-bodied children. The School has around 300 primary school children and a further 200 secondary school students. In a culture where disability is seen as a weakness because the children are not deemed ‘useful in the family, they would often otherwise be left on the street.

The teachers are passionate about making sure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

THIKA SCHOOL

Thika is a boarding school caring for children with visual impairment, many of the students have had to delay their education because of hospitalisation and the time needed to learn Braille. Thika has two schools — the primary school caters for around 250 boys and girls, while the high school has around 200 students

KIBERA CORPS AND NURSERY

Kibera is the largest slum in Africa, with an estimated 1.5 million people crowded into shacks or mud huts. The army has an incredible presence here with a corps and nursery. The nursery is a lifeline for the children and their families, providing them with access to education and a nutritional breakfast and lunch that they would not receive at home.

MAIANI CLINIC

A new dispensary has been recently opened to provide this rural community with basic health care. There is a pharmacy, a delivery room and family centre to work with local mothers and their needs. The army is making an immense difference to these people’s lives and it was an honour to witness.
